  1. Why a swap file?

Well it allows your operating system to use hard drive space to simulate extra memory on your system. When the OS is running low on memory, inactive programs are then moved from RAM into the swap space/file.

  2. Good stuff, but I was hoping for a explanation of why I need a swap file? What do typically use the swapfile for? What uses it? What does it help? Extended RAM?
