Four people have been jailed and fined after evading duties for cigarettes. The longest jail
term is 45 months and the fines amount to between $8 and $34 million. The punishments
are more severe because the men are repeat offenders. Custom officers had checked a
container parked in an industrial building in Jurong, where they seized nearly 11,000
cartons of illegal cigarettes, with the total duty evaded amounting to over a million dollars.
