How do I open a PHP file in my browser?

2 min read

This was one of the first questions I had as an aspiring web developer. It’s frustrating enough spending that first hour trying to figure out how to display a PHP file in your browser of choice, but after a few hours of continuous failure, you feel like throwing in the development towel altogether. ***open me***

It’s a bummer: Stack Overflow is filled with know-it-alls (who do, sadly and truly, know it all) who tell you to check the previous sad sacks who are in the same position as you, but their question just doesn’t quite match your issue. YouTube is filled with half-hour videos that kind of answer your question…Kind of. The documentation is Greek to you, and you ain’t Greek. Welcome to the world of a dev n00b.

In this video, I show you how to display your PHP files in the browser so you can develop fullstack PHP projects for the web.

Follow my instructions and you’ll be well on your way to developing in PHP while able to view your results on a server that you create, right on your own machine, no Internet access necessary.

  1. ALERT ALERT I did everything and it all worked up until the last part. I go to the url and type in localhost:8888, but whenever I click on one of the files, the php files does not render. Please help me if you can , I have a group presentations tomorrow and this is not working for me for some reason .
    Thanks for the video.
