  1. Save yourself some time and avoid circumventing the PHP extension issue and go download the only PHP version that works with no problems: php-5.2.13-Win32-VC6-x86.msi also available from the PHP site windows.php.net/downloads/releases/archives/php-5.2.13-Win32-VC6-x86.msi
Dont forget to fave-up this comment so more people stops doing unnecessary steps.

  2. If I remember correctly, browsers almost always check for a favicon.ico file, which will automatically add that to the error log if the file doesn't exist. There's a few ways to fix that, but the simplest way would be to use a free online generator or find a favicon.ico you like and put it in the path that's showing it to be missing from. The error will go away once you have that file in place.

  4. It should be just as simple as uninstalling PHP, (NOT Apache!!) and then downloading PHP 5.2.9 and installing it. It's going to be a little tricky if you're getting it from the repository since it's going to want to only give you the latest version, so you might have to do a little more work to get an older version installed. You might get lucky and find a package install of 5.2.9 and that'll be straight forward.
