http://techietutor.com Katherine Peter: If you’re anything like me, you may have several (or dare I say dozens) of registered domains. Over the years, I’ve had flashes of brilliance – great business ideas – and I’ve pounced on the domain names in a blinding flash to secure them until such a time as I could develop the concept(s)…And there they’ve sat, like so many mosquitos frozen in amber just waiting for their day to come.
I have used a few different registrars, but now that I’ve settled on my “host of choice” (bluehost.com) the issue that arises is: how do I use domains with other registrars to build a website on a different hosting account? While you can transfer your domains to your new hosting account, I recommend that you don’t. First, it’s a pain in the backside to go through the rigamarole. Second, you may end up having to pay fees or buy additional domain registration time. Finally, there is really no need to transfer your domain to your new hosting account – you can simply assign it to the account as an addon domain.
If you are allergic to technology, the whole idea of jumping through hoops with hosting accounts and domain registrars might be making you start to itch but, to be honest, it’s really a painless process. I’ve cobbled together a super-short video to show you how to add your domain to a new website account (in this case from GoDaddy to Bluehost).
